Check Your Nuts!
Check Your Nuts!
‘The Big C’ explained
It’s one of the most terrifying words in the English language.
And it affected more than 78,000 Aussie men last year alone.
But cancer won’t control us. It won’t define us. And it won’t defeat us.
Using our products is not just about looking and feeling great. It gives guys the extra opportunity to give yourself some well-deserved TLC, get familiar with what’s normal for you and have a regular check.
That’s why we’re urging all men to #checkyournuts and visit your doc if you notice any strange changes in any part of your body.
So, what actually is cancer?
It’s a diverse group of several hundred diseases that cause the body’s cells to become abnormal. The abnormal cells multiply, cause damage to the tissue around them and can spread to other parts of the body, causing further damage and in the worst-case scenario, death.
How does it affect us men?
It is estimated that half of all Australian men will be diagnosed with cancer before the age of 85.
Prostate, melanoma, bowel, lung and testicular cancer are among the most common types of cancers diagnosed in guys.
The most common overall is prostate cancer, with over 16,000 men expected to be diagnosed this year. Amongst men aged 20-39, skin cancer and testicular cancer are the most commonly diagnosed types of the disease.
How will I know if I have cancer?
The truth is, unless you visit an expert, you won’t.
Rather frighteningly, despite being 49 per cent of the population, men account for 53 per cent of the total disease burden in Australia and they are less likely to visit the doctor when they’re unwell.
And when asked whether they carry out self-examinations, under half of men said they did.
What can I do?
When it comes to ‘The Big C’, don’t take chances.
Note any changes to your body or the way you feel, #checkyournuts when using nutcare products, and visit your doctor if you notice anything strange.
You’re not alone in this – we’re all in it together!
This November, nutcare is raising awareness help men understand more about managing their health issues and continuing our on going support and pledge to Movember. Movember is the charity that continues to challenge the status quo, while shaking up men’s health research and transforming the way health services reach and support men.
Since 2003, Movember has funded more than 1,250 men’s health projects around the globe, and that has helped change lives for the better.
